With around two decades spent digging, DJing and producing, Tarragona’s Nögue has developed the kind of relationship with House music that comes from living with it rather than simply passing through. A vinyl collector and self-confessed lover of old-school synthesizers, his musical world has taken him through labels including Días de Campo, Discovery Vinyl and Toscal, where he now returns as the Spanish imprint continues its digital series alongside its vinyl-only output. His latest “Personality” EP adds another chapter to that relationship, with “Vaffanculo” providing one of its most immediately inviting moments.
For a track whose title translates rather unceremoniously from Italian as “f*ck off” or “piss off”, “Vaffanculo” is surprisingly difficult to be angry with. A techy bassline rolls steadily underneath deeper chords, finding that sweet spot between forward motion and warmth. There’s an almost summery ease hovering above the groove: light enough to let some air onto the dancefloor, yet anchored by a low end that keeps everything moving with purpose. Nothing feels hurried or unnecessarily dressed up; Nögue simply settles into the rhythm and lets it do the work.
As the chords and bassline gradually tighten their relationship, the track works its way towards a small breakdown before slipping naturally back into motion. There is no oversized drop waiting on the other side, nor does there need to be. “Vaffanculo” understands the value of continuity—the kind of record that can sit beautifully between bigger moments, keeping bodies moving while allowing a set to breathe. Rolling, deep and touched by summer warmth, it proves that sometimes the most effective thing a club track can do is simply refuse to stop the flow.
