On “Crispy Cookies and Tales of Delusion“, released via Locator Records, San Francisco-based Natebytheway delivers another strong statement following his recent outing on Miles for Styles. Known for his groove-led approach and distinct musical identity, the Torture the Artist affiliate continues to refine his sound with a focus on rhythm, texture, and character.
On the A2 cut, “toolateforcookiesyousillychicken”, Natebytheway builds the track around a driving house bassline that immediately sets things in motion. As the groove unfolds, deeper chord layers are introduced, adding warmth and depth while maintaining a clear sense of forward momentum. The result is a balance between his signature swing and a more peak-time oriented energy, without losing the subtlety that defines his productions.
There’s a tactile quality to the track, echoing the label’s description of “rhythm-forward, dub-touched body music.” Elements feel live and organic, giving the groove a certain looseness while staying tightly locked for the dancefloor.
Rather than blending into a set, “toolateforcookiesyousillychicken” carves out its own space – a track with personality and intent, designed to stand out while keeping dancers fully engaged.
