On the 24th release of MINDHELMET, the imprint continues to underline its sharp, club-focused identity. Curated by Truly Madly – widely respected as a tremendous selector with a deep understanding of dancefloor dynamics – the label consistently delivers functional yet character-driven cuts rooted in underground sensibilities. Within this context, Jimm contributes “Ladies Night“, appearing as the B2 on the various artist EP.
Built around vocal samples from Lil’ Kim’s “Ladies Night” – including elements from Missy Elliott’s contribution to the same version – the track leans into a minimal framework. A rolling, reduced bassline forms the backbone, while a darker synth line adds a subtle sense of tension throughout.
The interplay between the raw vocal energy and the restrained instrumental gives the track a clear sense of purpose. Familiar phrases are repositioned within a more functional setting, allowing them to hit differently on a club system.
A direct and effective tool, Ladies Night is geared toward the dancefloor, built on groove, attitude, and a tightly controlled atmosphere.
