After his A T.D.L.D Joint EP in 2014 and his Needs EP from 2016 Tokyo-based producer Omar Santis returns for the third time to Karakul, Phonica’s sub-label for deeper House approaches. The artist’s latest EP on label, Thursday Night Funktion, is a reference and dedication to the Omar’s Tokyo club night Funktion, namely also based on the Funktion One soundsystem, which takes place at Oath in Shibuya. Coming with altogether four orginals, even though Cameo Appearance is a digital bonus track only, and Iron Curtis‘ remix for the latter named digital track. The Berliner, having a preference for proper House music – whether it’s deep, soulful or with a disco-ish note – comes in with a multi-facetted take that contains darker chords, breakbeats and milling around vocal snippets, all highlighted by a lush and stalwart bass line and again creates a take that showcases his signature or trademark sound elegantly and in a sophisticated manner.
