exclusive | Pistaccio – Let the Sun In | Nuances de Nuit

Sydney-based Pistaccio makes his debut on T.Jacques’ Nuances de Nuit with “5 Knuckle Shuffle”, a four-track EP exploring the deeper and more dubbed-out corners of House. Opening the record, “Let The Sun In” sets the tone with a combination of warmth and restraint that feels perfectly suited to its title.

At its centre sits a wonderfully crisp bassline, giving the track definition underneath layers of dubby space and deep, lingering chords. A delicate piano line occasionally finds its way through, sweet enough to add warmth without ever demanding too much attention. Nothing feels rushed or particularly interested in making a grand entrance; instead, the individual elements settle into place and allow the groove to do the work.

The result carries that particular Deep House feeling where laid-backness and coolness somehow coexist with a subtle sense of sunshine. There is depth without darkness, warmth without drifting into outright euphoria, and enough space between the elements to let everything breathe. Perhaps it is the title doing some of the work, perhaps it is Pistaccio’s Sydney roots getting into our heads, but “Let The Sun In” somehow feels like a little piece of Australia pressed into a House record: deep, breezy and effortlessly sun-kissed.
