Club Vision returns with a new five-track EP, “Transfer” from Giuglio, moving through different shades of stripped-back club music across its two sides. Sitting at B2 and sharing its name with the release itself, “Transfer” is perhaps one of its more curious cuts, building its momentum through percussion, shifting bass movement and a surprisingly melodic streak.
It starts relatively patiently. A tightly controlled groove leaves plenty of space around the drums, while a bassline that feels almost as percussive as it does low-end driven begins to establish the track’s pulse. Rather than simply sitting underneath the rhythm, it becomes part of it, bouncing between the drums as brighter, slightly trancey synth notes gradually enter the picture. From there, “Transfer” keeps changing shape: melodic phrases open things up before a dirtier, more acidic bass sequence pulls it back towards the floor, adding a distinctly rubbery edge without overwhelming the groove.
That push and pull gives the track much of its character. There is enough melody to make it feel open and almost playful in places, but Giuglio repeatedly brings the focus back to rhythm, with crisp percussion and the restless bassline keeping things firmly in motion. It makes “Transfer” difficult to reduce to one obvious mood – part hypnotic roller, part acid-tinged club tool and part melodic oddball, continually transferring its weight from one element to the next without ever losing the groove underneath.
