With “Basic Witchcraft“, Lyon-based producer Heimyl Amsterdam’s Locked-In with another reminder of why his name continues to surface among lovers of deeper, groove-led club music. Having also released on the likes of Undergroove and Fraise Records, his productions rarely demand immediate attention. Instead, they reveal their strengths gradually, rewarding patient listening through subtle shifts and an unwavering sense of control.
On the A2, “Power Cat” carries that philosophy effortlessly. Bell-like melodic fragments drift across a deep, rolling bassline, creating a hypnotic interplay that feels both restrained and remarkably immersive. While undeniably darker in tone, the track never becomes oppressive. Instead, it builds its momentum through repetition and finely balanced textures, drawing the listener further into its spell with every passing bar.
“Power Cat” is the kind of record that doesn’t need dramatic peaks to leave an impression. Whether during the deeper hours of the night or as a slow-burning tool to reshape the atmosphere on a packed dancefloor, Heimyl demonstrates how much can be achieved through patience alone. It’s a subtle yet captivating cut that lingers long after the final groove has faded.
