Argentinian producer Alejandro Mosso’s forthcoming Gaia EP is as comprehensive as its name. Being the earth goddess and mother of all life, Gaia encompasses many attributes, all of which can be heard in the EP’s six songs. The compilation, with singles already a staple in John Talabot’s sets, will be released early April on Hivern Discs.
Ares begins with a strong, assertive, full and fuzzy bass line riding on top of a powerful rhythmic pattern. Every beat is utilized, filling up the entire meter with percussion. The feeling Mosso has created thus far is one of propulsion, inspiration and strength. It is carried one step further by the inclusion of sacred chanting vocals, guiding us forward in both motion and time. The strong offbeat rhythm makes us feel it to our core, and the vocals make the song inclusive and large. Ares is the god of war, and one can’t help but ascribe a narrative to this expressive song.
