Somewhere between the last flicker of the night and the first hint of morning, DJ Sometimes finds a particularly sweet spot where the bass rolls deep, the drums refuse to sit still, and everything feels just a little out of focus.
Appearing on the second various-artists outing from Irish imprint Fluff Records, “Feel U (Inside Me)” slips into motion with the unmistakable swing of UK Garage. A rumbling bassline moves beneath a restless arrangement of infectious percussion, while spacey riffs and warm, hazy keys drift through the gaps like half-remembered conversations on a crowded dancefloor.
There’s a wonderfully warped quality to it all. Nothing feels overly polished or perfectly straightened out. Instead, the track finds its charm in the little twists and turns, allowing its rhythmic intricacies to breathe without ever losing sight of the groove. The low end provides the weight, the percussion keeps the body moving, and those softly glowing melodic touches add just enough warmth to make the whole thing feel strangely familiar.
DJ Sometimes doesn’t need grand gestures to make an impression. “Feel U (Inside Me)” is all about the subtle pleasures of a rhythm that settles beneath your skin, a bassline that knows exactly where it belongs, and a hazy atmosphere that makes you want to stay on the dancefloor just a little longer.
A beautifully off-kilter introduction to another promising chapter in Fluff Records’ young catalogue.
