REVIEW Javonntte ‘Dirty Digital Experience EP’ [RAWAX MOTOR CITY EDITION]

Where to begin when discussing Javonntte? The Detroit dude has been bringing the heat for a number of decades, with a consistency of quality that never dips. The list of labels released on is staggering, now with RAWAX added to that list, with the Dirty Digital Experience EP landing on their Motor City Edition stamp.

The A-side cuts are pure classic vibes, aimed squarely at the floor and for the time in the night when the hips are moving, the smiles are beaming and the crowd just needs to let go. Alone With You is the opener, super-tight punchy beats layered with incessant stabby keys, a sultry sub-bass and a vocal refrain that nags away at you throughout the track. Piercing strings elevate the groove, warm and fuzzy synths keep the movement until the stabs return and we’re back into the main vibe once more. The energy remains throughout the track, giving the EP a classic launchpad for the listener. Deep….Into You follows, utilizing a similar “classic stabs” style, but the emphasis leans on the bass and beats, along with the clips of sax which puncture the groove periodically. The two opening tracks have a real late 80s/early 90s Basement Boys feeling, so if raw and unadulterated US deep grooves are your bag, look no further.

Flip over and things head way deep down, the elastic bassline and crunchy keys of Every Body’s A Star opening up the B-side in fine style. Vocal clips play with the synths as the track develops, followed by added FX clips and loose drum hits for extra swing. This is a beauty of a track and definitely one for getting things grooving just right on the floor as the club fills up.

The depth remains with Neptunelove, which is built around rattling percs, low-end stabs and bass, with neat space-laden FX and synth sounds, like a gorgeous audio-duvet wrapping itself around you & making you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. As with the previous cut, it’s a perfect scene-setting mood vibe, expertly crafted.

Javonntte shows his production dexterity by taking the BPM down, switching a straight 4/4 vibe into a broken beat instead with Let’s Take Our Time To Slow Dance, a hidden track on the release. Suggestive vox lead the way, staccato synth sounds and warm bass fill the speakers and the EP takes you into another territory altogether. Three minutes of beautiful backroom/early doors sounds are what you get here, it’s a great end to the EP, another addition for DJs who are cool with playing a selection of different styles and sounds. Javonntte, take a bow!

Javonntte Dirty Digital Experience EP is out on RAWAX MOTOR CITY EDITION.
