With “Sexy”, the A1 cut from his “Finding Roots EP”, Kuyateh delivers a confident, groove-first statement on JISUL, the Frankfurt-based label curated by Tiago Walter. As the label’s eighth release, the EP feels like a homecoming of sorts -local talent, local energy, and a shared understanding of what makes a dancefloor tick.
“Sexy” wastes no time getting to the point. A classic, rolling house bassline anchors the track, warm and elastic, while chopped male vocal snippets slide in and out with playful confidence. They slide so naturally into the groove that you stop hearing them as “vocals” and start feeling them as rhythm, giving the track its flirtatious edge without ever tipping into cliché. It’s seductive in a subtle way, more about attitude than obvious hooks.
One of the smartest touches is the use of synth chords. Briefly surfacing before disappearing again, they bring flashes of disco warmth and jazzy sophistication, creating small moments of lift and release. By holding them back and letting the vocals take center stage, Kuyateh keeps the arrangement dynamic and alive. Nothing overstays its welcome; everything arrives exactly when it needs to.
The result is a track that feels effortless but carefully shaped. Super groovy, deeply functional, and full of personality, “Sexy” sits comfortably between classic house tradition and contemporary club sensibility. Following his recent work with Arno on Gametime for Trelik Records and his remix on Brouqade Records, this release further confirms Kuyateh as one of Frankfurt’s most exciting rising voices.
As an opener, “Sexy” sets the tone with charm and confidence – music made for smiling dancefloors, late nights, and that moment when the groove finally locks in and everything feels right.
