I firmly believe that allowing your heart to guide your actions is the most profound resolution one can adopt.

Torture the Artist: Hello Igor, could you share with us how your day has been so far?

Cosmic G: Certainly! With an early spring blessing Belgrade, my day commenced with a leisurely stroll accompanied by my faithful canine companion, tuned in to some chill beats, allowing my mind to unwind. Following this serene start, I’ll be dedicating my time to music production, punctuated with savoring some of Serbia’s renowned culinary delights.

Torture the Artist: How did you kick off the year 2024, and do you have any New Year’s resolutions in mind?

Cosmic G: Honestly, I refrain from setting predefined resolutions. I firmly believe that allowing your heart to guide your actions is the most profound resolution one can adopt.

Torture the Artist: Your sets draw inspiration from a variety of sounds, notably paying homage to the 90s and early 00s era. Can you tell us about the labels, producers, or DJs who have influenced you the most from that period?

Cosmic G: The 90s and early 00s were characterized by music crafted with genuine passion, contrasting with today’s more trend-driven scene. Continuously evolving the foundations laid during that period, I draw inspiration from artists such as Lemon 8, X-dream, Force Mass Motion, and Etnica. Each of these luminaries has left an indelible mark on my musical journey.

Torture the Artist: Could you provide some insight into how you initially became enamored with electronic music?

Cosmic G: Music has been an integral part of my life’s fabric. Following my formal education in music, including my time in a band, my brother introduced me to a Psy-party in our city. It was there that my fascination with electronic music ignited, and I’ve been captivated ever since.

Torture the Artist: What was the electronic track that first captivated you, and where did you encounter it?

Cosmic G: I vividly recall the moment “Infected Mushroom” by Saeed resonated with me deeply, marking the inception of my electronic music journey.

Torture the Artist: How do you perceive the current state of the electronic music scene in Serbia compared to when you began DJing and producing?

Cosmic G: The Serbian music scene, unfortunately, grapples with predominant influence from Serbian Pop, hindering the flourishing of alternative genres. Despite the challenges posed by an underdeveloped scene and societal factors like hypocrisy, I remain committed to my craft fueled solely by my passion for music.

Torture the Artist: Holding residencies at 20/44 and Drugstore in Belgrade, how do you navigate playing your distinct sound amidst venues primarily known for Melodic House/Techno?

Cosmic G: Indeed, these venues serve as sanctuaries amidst the sea of mainstream hype music. However, it necessitates building a scene from the ground up, assuming roles beyond that of a mere performer. As for a ‘musical lectureship,’ I’m uncertain; my focus lies in fostering an authentic musical experience.

Music was made with love in the 90s and early 00s, and now with hype, that being said I’m constantly trying to evolve what people started then, for me music is only passion and always be.

Torture the Artist: How do you go about selecting artists to share the stage with you, and do you lean towards featuring local talent or international acts?

Cosmic G: Initially, I handled all bookings independently, reflecting the scarcity of like-minded individuals locally. However, with the emergence of talents such as RTY and Vagabond, I’m grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with fellow passionate artists. While I predominantly booked international acts to enrich the local scene, showcasing Belgrade’s musical potential remains a priority.

Torture the Artist: Are there any up-and-coming labels, producers, or DJs from Belgrade you believe deserve recognition?

Cosmic G: Certainly, Belgrade harbors a wealth of emerging talent. Notable mentions include Matej Rusmir and Marko Nastic, both exemplifying the city’s musical prowess. Additionally, collaborations with producers like Dakman exemplify the vibrant electronic landscape burgeoning within Belgrade.

Torture the Artist: Where do you typically source your music in Belgrade, and do you have any recommendations for record stores or online platforms?

Cosmic G: Fortunately, we now boast Balkan Vinyl, a haven for vinyl enthusiasts, spearheaded by Paul. As for online sources, they offer convenience in discovering new sounds and expanding one’s musical palette.

Torture the Artist: Could you share your three recent musical discoveries that have resonated with you?

Cosmic G: Recently, I’ve found solace in exploring Amapiano, indulging in its rhythmic allure. Additionally, my playlist features a blend of classical compositions and contemporary creations, offering a diverse auditory experience.

Torture the Artist: Amongst the various places you’ve performed internationally, do you have a favorite venue, and which destinations are on your performance bucket list?

Cosmic G: Reflecting on past experiences, venues like IBoat in Bordeaux and Module in Copenhagen stand out for their unparalleled energy and ambiance. As for future aspirations, the prospect of gracing stages worldwide fuels my artistic endeavors, with countless destinations awaiting exploration.

Maintaining autonomy over my creative expression remains paramount, safeguarding against any potential compromises.

Torture the Artist: In your professional career, you’re involved with a startup. How does this complement your artistic pursuits?

Cosmic G: Balancing my passion for music with professional commitments, particularly within sales leadership, provides stability and fulfillment. Recognizing the symbiotic relationship between both realms, I strive to find harmony, extracting positivity from each endeavor.

Torture the Artist: Would you ever consider transitioning from your day job to pursue music full-time?

Cosmic G: While the notion is appealing, I’m hesitant to compromise my artistic integrity for financial gain. Maintaining autonomy over my creative expression remains paramount, safeguarding against any potential compromises.

Torture the Artist: With several successful releases under your belt, could you offer a glimpse into your upcoming projects for 2024?

Cosmic G: Anticipate an array of exciting projects slated for 2024, including four confirmed EPs and collaborative ventures with esteemed labels such as 39 Rec, E&S, and SNC Recs, among others. Stay tuned for more details on these forthcoming releases.

Torture the Artist: Regarding your studio workflow, what equipment do you utilize, and how do you initiate your creative process?

Cosmic G: Central to my workflow is crafting compelling basslines, akin to the foundational role of a bass guitarist within a band. Alternatively, sessions may commence with experimenting with synth melodies, dictated by the prevailing creative impulse.

Torture the Artist: When confronted with creative blocks, how do you overcome them?

Cosmic G: Recognizing the futility of forceful creativity, I opt for temporary detachment, allowing ideas to gestate organically. Often, resuming sessions with a refreshed perspective yields the breakthrough needed to surmount creative obstacles.

Torture the Artist: What’s your beverage of choice during studio sessions?

Cosmic G: Opting for simplicity, water remains my beverage of choice, fostering clarity and focus throughout studio endeavors.

Torture the Artist: Your productions exude boundless energy. Have you considered incorporating live elements into your performances alongside DJing?

Cosmic G: While the notion holds appeal, my current focus remains on honing my DJing craft. Nevertheless, exploring live performance avenues may materialize in the future, albeit requiring meticulous preparation and dedication.

Torture the Artist: You recently curated an art:cast. How did you conceptualize your set, and what ambiance did you envision for its presentation?

Cosmic G: Drawing from my admiration for Torture the Artist, I aimed to craft a seamless blend of contemporary sounds intertwined with nostalgic 90s and early 00s influences. Evoking a club atmosphere, I endeavored to transport listeners on an immersive sonic journey, characterized by spontaneity and authenticity.

Torture the Artist: In what setting do you envision your art:cast being enjoyed, and why?

Cosmic G: During the recording process, I envisaged a club-like ambiance, complete with subtle lighting and an intimate audience. Encouraging listeners to immerse themselves fully, I sought to evoke a sensory experience reminiscent of a live club environment.

Torture the Artist: If you could star in any TV show, which would it be, and what draws you to it?

Cosmic G: “Prison Break” holds a special place in my heart, leaving an indelible impression since my youth. Captivated by its gripping narrative and compelling characters, participating in such a production would be a dream come true.
