REVIEW Various Artists ‘Liquid Memories II’ [Liquid Memory]

Vinyl-only label Liquid Memory and its founders Elroi and Ori Raz are back with the second Liquid Memories installment on their imprint delivering four original tracks from themselves under their solo-monikers as well as their common project Serenity Now and Ori’s collaborative work with WhereIsFenix. The Berliners by choice compiled an EP that musically certainly aims at the dance floor yet the tracks cover the different episodes or moments of the night and are a successful conglomerate of varied electronic music with references to the early days of the music.

The EP kickstarts with Elroi’s contribution Transmission, a track which is inspired by Dub Techno and skillfully nuanced hypnotic pads. The latter take the crowd on a deep journey into the night without notice as Transmission makes one float over the floor with its super bouncy bassline and absorbing chords.

Liquid Memories II continues with Ori Raz’s track Hydro Ritual on the A2. His take is a Deep House track with a slightly proggy touch and – consciously or unconsciously – influenced by early Bedrock sounds. Hence, Hydro Ritual stands out due to its catchy pads, the gentle claps and the exquisite female vocals. Whether you play a bigger crowd or at an intimate space Hydro Ritual should be your choice.

The B1 features Ori Raz’s collaborative work with WhereIsFenix, namely oOh. Musically the track is a modern affair and twist of 90s UK Techhouse sounds with a deep and dark groove. The exceptional chosen samples as well as the skillfully effected vocals turn oOh into a proper peak time weapon.

The EP closes with Elroi and Ori’s track Mind Groove, which is out under their Serenity Now moniker. Just like the track title supposes the take is a decent after-party tribalistic House groover with well-arranged Congo drums. The seductive vocals seem to be made for those moments when ringing in the party after the party.

Liquid Memories II and its four timeless tracks are for any stage of the night and are made for those jocks who like to dig a little bit deeper into underground House music. So do not sleep on this beauty.

Liquid Memories II is out on Liquid Memory.
