REVIEW Ackermann ‘I Got My Man’ [All That Jelly]

Stuttgart-based Ackermann has been putting out music for round about two decades under several aliases. The established artist’s works have seen the light of day on renowned labels such as Tenampa, Kling Kong, Second State or on his very own imprint Traktor Records. For his latest outing Andreas Klein, Ackermann’s real name, jumps on the vibe of Mr. Fonk’s All That Jelly label – the sub label of Smile For A While – adding four tracks to the label’s discography, which is influenced by the early sounds from the US electronic scene. Ackermann’s conglomerate of Chicago and Detroit sounds goes by the name of I Got My Man and is the label’s thirteenth catalogue number.

The A1, I Got My Man (M.I.T.A. Remix) is a heavy big room take, which samples the irresistible vocals of Lolita Holloway and reminds the listener of works from artists such as Kenny Larkin, Paperclip People and Floorplan. The M.I.T.A. Remix take definitely is a hard big room-banger with classic Detroit pads going straight forward like the early music coming from Motor City.

While the A1 has a more technoid-touch the A2-track House Your Body is an uptempo Chicago House track, which samples legendary HipHouse anthem I’ll House by the Jungle Brothers and places the vocals in a classy Chi-Town sound-environment with deep chords and a raw-finish. In this case it’s the simplicity of the elements, that turn House Your Body into a floorbanger and a sweet revisit of early House day moments.

The B-side starts with the original version of I Got My Man, which is more minimalistic and stripped down version of the M.I.T.A. Remix on the A1. Again and self-explaining the track is as heavily inspired by (late) Detroit Techno sounds as the EP’s opening track. The spoken vocals over the a bouncy bass line in combination with the deep Techno-chords make I Got My Man a track to remember those peak time club moments.

Ooohh I Love It is the EP closer and the place where Techno meets Disco. The track is a funky speed-up tune, which definitely puts a smile on people’s faces and spreads its (positive) energy throughout the room.

Ackermann’s I Got My Man EP is definitely one for those who enjoy the early days of electronic music coming from the US as the artist delivers four cuts heavily influenced by the vibe and sounds of these days.

Ackermann’s I Got My Man EP is out on All That Jelly.
