REVIEW Harrison BDP ‘Far Away EP’ [E&X Records]

With the signing of Harrison BDP for its second outing, E&X Records managed to land another strike in the label’s young history. The Welsh artist has reached stardom over the past decade also due to releases on renowned labels such as Phonica, Shall Not Fade, Haws, Dansu Discs and many more. Now Harrison Webber, Harrison BDP’s real name, proves why he’s on top of the game and comes in with three original tracks on SY’s label plus a remix by Italian veteran Alex Neri for the EP’s title track Far Away

The EP starts with Far Away, a timeless groovey Progressive House tune with a gentle drop, which includes the sample of a phone conversation, and a general uplifting almost cheer- and blissful tone letting emotions boil in its dreaminess.

Next comes Alex Neri’s remix approach for the title track. The Italian Prog-vet adds some spice and 90s inspired House vibes to the track. Moreover, Neri decides to include percussive/kongo -style drums, a rather lush basslines and heavy hitting breaks. However, Neri playing creates some punchy effects when playing around with the melody and vocals from the original turning the remix into a proper club take with a Balearic note.

The B-side shows Harrison BDP’s taking a more calmer still proggy route with the second original track on the EP Conflict Within. The track surely has some distinctive early Bedrock elements, which are perfectly put together and are added a slightly acidic touch as well as a mesmerizing melody. With the Conflict Within Harrison BDP definitely depicts a more darker side of his productions.

The last track and B2 of the EP is Hells Bells, which can be considered a hybrid track following a minimalistic trancy Breakbeat-approach. The opulent breaks and extraordinary pads round off the track.

Harrison BDP’s Far Away EP has everything DJs are looking for to enhance their sets: various styles for several (special) moments in the night. Chapeau!

Harrison BDP’s Far Away EP is out on E&X Records.
