Belgian artist DC Salas has been a scene’s mainstay for more than a decade now and can boast releases on renowned labels such as Live At Robert Johnson or Correspondant, thereby the DJ and producer regularly crosses genre-borders and smoothly moves back and forth between Italo-House, New Beat, Trance, House and Techno, always moving dance floors, always right on point and never arbitrary. His latest artistic-outing is released on HIPS and marks the label’s second catalogue number. A Lifetime On The Hips that is a sub-label of Semi Delicious, run by non other than Demi Requisimo, probably the artist of the moment.
DC Salas’ EP Tio, the Spanish word for uncle, kicks off with the title track, which is rather Trance-infused take with a catchy chord progression and mesmerizing vocals. Still it is this almost unbeatable and inevitable bassline, which – excuse the words – demolishes any floor with ease and keeps dancers and listeners tied to the track from start to finish.
Up next on the EP is Fearless Is More, a modern take of an almost classic Eurodance sound. The looped vocals as well as the seemingly euphoric drops in the track plus further nuanced sound-details turn the track to yet another dance floor weapon.
The third track of the EP is Never Ending Story, which chose a more dramatic musical approach and by that takes the crowd on a journey through a bit darker territories of the night. After a really gorgeous drop Never Ending Story goes fully into an Electro-House direction, which has so much groove that one could easily define the track as Electro-House-Swing.
A Departure is the B2 or in musical-words: it’s a big-room-ish flavored track that keeps on building up and up until the Acid bassline is introduced. Let’s be honest on this one truly makes you depart from planet Earth as it makes you fly.
Lastly and as the EP-round up there is Slowtospeed, a pitched down trancy electro House affair with a lush old-school bassline and an hypnotizing break.
DC Salas’ Tio EP surely aims at the bigger floors but these five quality tracks simply set those on fire.
DC Salas’ Tio EP is out on HIPS.
