REVIEW Hulu ‘Rewired’ [Past Tense]

Past Tense is a newly found label with the aim of reissuing old and forgotten gems from the past. The label welcomes Hulu for their debut. Hulu that’s three artists from the UK, who’ve had two releases on mysterious vinyl label Fine Tuna and add a third outing with their Rewired EP to their discography and it’s four straight club takes you can expect making the past sound so fresh in the present.

The A1, Magic Circle, is a banging minimalistic Trance-House tune with a distinctive early 90s sound. It’s rough, funky and energetic at the same time and comes with hypnotic pads and repetitive vocals that keep on pushing the track to an almost infinite high and at the same time taking its crowd to an euphoric state of mind on the dance floor.

Knife In Water, the A2 of the EP, is a an early unites progressive elements with Techno and Trance at its best. The quirky technoid peak time track is meant to be an euphoriant approach for adventurous crowds in warehouse surroundings or forest gatherings. Wherever you will be able to enjoy Knife In The Water, it’ll surely make you fall in love with its energetic orientation.

The B-side kicks off with what one could call the perfect example of early 90’s Progressive House. Rewired, the EP’s title track, sound how many people and artists wants to sound like these days but don’t. The emotional lysergic part after hour-track certainly transports joy and happiness thereby creating sweet memories with its memorable synth-line on the dance floors.

Lastly there is Wired, the B2 and EP’s closing track. This track would not have been out of place in sets of Vision Of Shiva or Cosmic Baby during the heydays of Trance. Wired comes in with a dose of sentimentalism as it tickles one’s emotions but still is uplifting and contains some decent yet undeniable fluency’s of Krautrock. The effective and catchy chord progressions as well as the synthetic didgeridoo sounds make Wired a perfect morning bliss.

Hulu unite various styles and influences on their overall third (vinyl) outing and the start of Past Tense. An overall heartfelt label debut with four tracks that are gearing towards the dance floor and surely causing some blissful moments whenever those chords sound.

Hulu’s Rewired EP is out on Past Tense.
