After the huge success of his Groove Radiance release on his own Physical Education label, Baldo now lands on the excellent Permanent Vacation (again), thereby the Subwax Distribution-head laying down three tracks of sublime club-friendly cuts.
Party Forever opens the release with an immediate impact; hollow bassy sounds, neat synth lines and crisp percussion are to the fore, with Baldo’s love for acid being showcased here, with some truly mind-bending twisted acid lines landing over the undulating bass-heavy groove. Pure club music here, with all the elements landing in all the right places!Â
Continuing his love affair with bass-heavy club slammers, The Disco Bus is the second track, but anyone expecting some Bee Gees’ Saturday Night Fever style elements will be really disappointed; this is not one of ‘those’ disco tracks. In fact, there isn’t any disco involved, it’s another unadulterated club vibe, with stabby delayed synths mingling with another pulsating acid line, occasional snatches of 90s house percussion and a vox which encourages us all to “…get on the disco bus”. And who are we to argue? Get on that bus and see where it takes you….
The third and final track on the release is Not Just Physical, perhaps a reference to his own aforementioned Physical Education label. This is a less full-on cut overall, still gliding along with excellent percs, supremely deep bass and little hints of old house tracks from the early 90s, but the synths and stabs here are much more restrained giving the track a feeling of a magic carpet ride, easing its way into your conscious while floating several metres above your head. It’s a gorgeous melting pot of bass, beats and perfectly executed synths, layered in exceptional style.
Baldo is absolutely on top form on this release, may his ascendency continue to rise, more of this please, sir!
