REVIEW Man/ipulate ‘Music Call (Remixes)’ [Certain Music]

Manipulate’s Eternity EP, which was released last summer on Certain Music, caused a massive stir on dance floors at that time. This summer thought it’s not not the title track of last year’s EP, which gets the remix treatment, but the B2-track Music Call. Some of the scene’s most relevant artists add some fresh seasoned flavor to the take and deliver potentially new summer weapons.

Love On The Rocks-mainstay as well as one part of Opal Sunn Alex Kassian, who also remixed Eternity, delivers the the Powerplay Remix, which definitely transports some Donna Summer feel good vibes and is influenced by early 90s House with a very touching and moving arpeggio. So basically Kassian’s approach combines uplifting chord progressions with a four to the floor kick drum and é voila there we have a proper club hit.

Fantastic Man’s remix, Fantastic Man Mediterranean Mindfuck, explores the more psychedelic territories, giving his take a slightly hypnotic twist, yet the Australian by heart and Berliner by choice manages to bring out the original’s positive tone by adapting the chord-sequences and incorporating it into his approach. However and as the remix-title suggests Fantastic Man’s approach is more suitable for the early night or late morning hours as it perfectly goes with those breezy Balearic vibes you best witness at those times of the day.

Subwax co-founder Baldo delivers an acidic rework of Music Call, which comes with a punchy bassline, classy and classic breaks and 303 pads. Altogether this one’s raw and full of energy and was probably one of Baldo’s highlights in his HÖR Berlin-set in January. Let’s say it: This is a real banger!

Lastly, Certain People’s version, the Early Prog Mix, is a nod to the much loved early progressive era. This remix though comes with a way more modern take on it. Certain People’s remix is deep, spacy trancy and psychedelic all at the same time and definitely an early morning party goddess.

Overall the Music Call Remixes EP is definitely one to stay the test of time and work on dance floors for as long as electronic music is being played in clubs, festivals or wherever. Four tasty remixes covering four sub-genres and styles – it does not get more versatile yet confidently stylish.

Music Call (Remixes) is released on Certain Music.
