With the “A14 EP”, Obliq Records presents a finely balanced three-tracker that feels both rooted and in motion – an understated journey through deep grooves, Garage swing, and melodic storytelling. Shared between Alessio Collina and DJ Rou, the record unfolds like a short trip with changing scenery, each track offering its own perspective while contributing to a coherent whole.
The A1, “Wait A Minute”, sees Alessio Collina set the tone with confidence. Sitting at a comfortable 128 BPM, the track blends deep house warmth with a subtle garage inflection, anchored by slightly hip-hop-tinged vocal snippets that add a relaxed, conversational edge. There’s a ceremonial quality to the groove: steady, inviting, and perfectly suited to opening a floor – not by force, but by drawing dancers in and easing them into motion.
On the A2, DJ Rou takes over with “Humpin’ Heart”, a track that leans into dreamier, more tech-oriented territory while keeping groove front and center. Smooth textures float above a rolling rhythm, creating a sense of lift and flow. It’s the kind of track that keeps the heart bumping and the feet moving – equally effective as a gentle opener or as a tool to maintain momentum once the room is already warm.
The B-side brings both artists together on “Road to the Sea (A14)”, the EP’s emotional anchor. Inspired by the Autostrada A14, which runs along Italy’s Adriatic coastline, the track captures a feeling of travel and freedom. An airy, almost seaside-tinted synth line sets the mood, while an intriguing piano intermezzo adds depth and reflection. Beneath it all, a subtle but defining acid line quietly shapes the journey, guiding the track forward without ever dominating it.
Taken as a whole, the A14 EP feels like a shared drive with the windows down – unforced, scenic, and deeply groovy. Alessio Collina and DJ Rou each bring their own voice to the table, and together they deliver a release that’s as functional on the dancefloor as it is evocative in atmosphere.
