REVIEW Various Artists ‘Mindhelmet 12’ [MINDHELMET]

Mindhelmet, spearheaded by the esteemed selector Truly Madly, has been a trailblazing force in the realm of underground house music since 2020. Now, with its 12th release, the label continues to evolve, honing its distinct and eccentric sound. The latest offering is a testament to the label’s commitment to delivering uncompromising music tailored exclusively for the dancefloor.

The A1 track from Sweely, namely Dancing Pockets, unfolds as a contemporary funky House masterpiece, featuring atmospheric breaks, a captivating melody, and a brilliantly integrated sample from the archives of the synth don, Sweely—an old, broken answering machine brought to life in musical form.

Meanwhile, the A2 track, Space Bong, crafted by emerging UK artist Nathan Pinder, is an uptempo Tech-House anthem. Its dynamic energy, synthetic pads, and Acid-infused madness evoke nostalgic vibes reminiscent of the classic Sonic Empire by Members of Mayday, taking listeners on a thrilling journey from start to finish.

On the B1, which comes from Paradise City Breakers and goes by the name of Jackzone Poizone, the EP offers an intriguing twist on the Chi-Town jacking sound, infusing it with modern sound production and complexity. The inclusion of old-school vocals and an unconventional melody adds a layer of depth and uniqueness to the composition.

Closing the EP, the B2 track Via Lincoln Green by Bobby O’Donnell & Reeshy, is a modern, dark, and intoxicating minimal tune. It skillfully combines hazy female vocals, uplifting chords, and acidic blaster sounds, resulting in a danceable yet experimental sonic experience.

Mindelmet 12 signifies Mindhelmet’s zenith, showcasing the label’s abundant creativity for those who revel in the unconventional and daring aspects of electronic music.
